Altering the Norms
We installed lights in the streets of Haiti as part of the Cherilus Heritage Foundation's second project. Mentor, Samuel Cherilus, brought up the idea of not only brightening the dark streets of unfortunate people, but making their day as well. This simple action, in our opinion, could make nighttime living simpler and more enjoyable. Our objective was to make life simpler due to the high crime rate and living standards. Relatively thinking, those without even the most basic necessities will have lights that enable them to work more efficiently. When Samuel Cherilus visited Haiti, for instance, the locals remarked that "They needed the lights and it's a very positive factor." They were simply ecstatic and grateful to be blessed by this chance. Generally, in third world nations, light can be used for a variety of purposes just like water. It's crucial to take into account the effects of infrastructure development in a developing nation like Haiti. Installing streetlights can help to increase safety, stimulate the economy, and improve the quality of life for locals. Additionally, it can foster a sense of community and safety at night. We therefore hope that by doing this, even a small step forward in the economy will be made. Ultimately, we wish to illuminate more Haitian streets and allow God’s light to work in the hearts of the Haitian people. As the Lord once said, “Let there be light.”
